Heavy metals - Antioxidant - Degenerative diseases - Thyroid booster.

Selenium is an essential trace element, necessary for the formation of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase (glutathione peroxidase), an important enzyme that works with other antioxidant agents to protect the body's cells from the oxidative stress of free radicals.

It is incorporated in the body into a large number of vital proteins called selenoproteins. Selenoproteins participate in the production of testosterone, a hormone that is an important regulator of both its normal and abnormal growth. Also, these proteins help regulate thyroid function and play an important role in the immune system.

Selenium's action reduces the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes. Its strong antioxidant property in synergy with vitamin E supports the normal functioning of the pancreas, liver, and immune system. Selenium is particularly useful for athletes, since it protects against muscle problems caused by free radicals after intense exercise.

NOW's Selenium formulation contains 100 mcg of selenium per capsule, exceeding the body's daily need for selenium.

Note: Selenium is contraindicated in people living in areas with high selenium levels.
